VIPA International welcomes the provisional agreement on the new European Regulation on energy efficiency labelling

VIPA International welcomes the provisional agreement of the European Parliament and the European Council on the new European Regulation on energy efficiency labelling. We are convinced that the new A to G label will allow consumers to take informed decisions when they buy their appliances, avoiding the misleading effect of the current A+ system. This new energy labelling framework will bring several beneficial effects for the environment and for the consumers, and we hope that the European Commission, the Parliament and the Council will speed up the formal approval and the effective implementation of this Regulation.

We also welcome the fact that it will be possible to use the new label for white goods, including fridges and refrigerators, by early 2020, avoiding unnecessary delays. Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) are today used in appliances such as fridges and refrigerators. Thanks to their high insulation properties and their low thermal conductivity, household and commercial fridges using VIPs qualify for superior energy ratings effectively and economically.

The President of VIPA International, Gregor Erbenich, stated that “VIPs are already used today in fridges and refrigerators, ensuring top-class thermal insulation in a reduced space compared to other insulation materials. We are glad that the European institutions have finally reached an agreement on the new energy efficiency label, which will allow consumers to reduce their energy bills selecting the most advanced appliances in the market in a simple and clear way”.

Further to that, VIPA International also welcomes the compromise on the new database of energy efficient products. The database will be an important source of information for consumers, ensuring at the same time the necessary surveillance of national authorities. The compliance part of the database ensures the confidentiality and the protection of sensitive information, avoiding at the same time too burdensome procedures for companies.
