Vacuum Insulation Panel technology used in façade insulation of the Grand Tower Frankfurt

This case study shows an example of how Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) contributed to insulating the façade of a prestigious residential building in Frankfurt, the Grand Tower, achieving considerable space savings.

Population in big cities has risen over the years and space has become more and more limited. Due to this there is a rising demand for innovative insulation materials that can achieve the same results as traditional insulation products with less insulation thickness. The Grand Tower Frankfurt has been insulated with VIPs, saving up to 123 m2 living area in total at 47 floors. This corresponds to one spacious apartment, which is valuable around 1 mio Euro in a booming inner city like that Frankfurt. In addition, a solution has been provided for insulating the façade’s many organically shaped units, called ‘tubes’, which required the use of curved VIPs.

Roland Caps, va-Q-tec’s Founder and Board member of VIPA International stated: “This case study is another great example of the different benefits VIPs bring for the building industry. It is a fact that VIPs are an innovative solution which can contribute to considerable space savings in highly populated cities.”
