2026IFSIM featured 6 plenary academic reports, where participants engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge technologies, industrial status, and future trends of vacuum insulation materials.

Prof. Saim Memon from Renewable Energy Engineering at Birmingham City University delivered a report titled “Frontiers in Vacuum Insulation Technology Implementation: Translating Super Insulation Materials from Research Excellence to Commercial Impact”. Dr. Hideya Yamamoto from EKO Instruments Japan shared “Study of Thermal Bridge Phenomenon in VIP Applications and Its Impact on Thermal Performance Using Heat Flow Sensors”.

Other invited speakers included: Prof. Sun Daming from Zhejiang University: Application Research of Super Insulation Materials and Technologies in Cryogenic Engineering, Senior Engineer Kan Ankang from Shanghai Maritime University: Research Progress on VIP Core Materials for Sustainable and Circular Economy, Dr. Cao Linglin from Nantong Ecotherm New Materials Co., Ltd.: Development of High-Performance Phase Change Material VIP Cold Chain Boxes and Their Ultra-Long-Term Thermal Insulation Performance Research, Dr. Zheng Qiankang from NUAA: Barrier Layer Materials and Properties in Vacuum Insulation Integrated Decorative Panels. These reports combining academic depth and innovative strength fully demonstrated the strong vitality of continuous innovation in China’s super insulation materials field.

2026IFSIM also organized 25 technical reports focusing on “Research, Development and Application of VIP and Their External Wall Insulation Systems”. The parallel sessions were chaired by Prof. Yang Lixia from NUAA, Dr. Zhao Chu from China Academy of Building Research, and Dr. Zhang Jianhong from China Testing and Certification International Group Nanjing Guocai Testing Co., Ltd. The reports covered a wide range of topics including insulation system design, product standards, application regulations, performance characterization and evaluation, membrane material development, production capacity improvement, and compatible material research.

2026IFSIM Organizing Committee awarded the “VIP Research Lifetime Achievement Award” to Senior Engineer Kan Ankang and Prof. Saim Memon, in recognition of their years of continuous outstanding contributions and remarkable achievements in VIP field.
In the concurrent Super Insulation Materials Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, five kinds of VIP products won gold awards, including “HT120 High-Temperature Resistant VIP Membrane Material” from Anhui Kinswee New Materials Co., Ltd.

VIP standard promotion meetings and standard seminars were also held during the conference. Prof. Chen Zhaofeng systematically promoted the “Vacuum Insulation Integrated Decorative Panels for Buildings” (T/CECS 10512-2025), which was compiled over five years and implemented in March 2026. This standard systematically specifies for the first time the classification, performance indicators, test methods, and inspection rules of vacuum insulation integrated decorative panels for buildings, covering both metal and non-metal decorative panels. It also puts forward clear requirements for key technical indicators such as barrier layers, thermal conductivity, tensile bond strength, and combustion grade. The release and implementation of this standard will provide efficient, safe, and integrated technical solutions for building external wall insulation projects, and strongly promote the large-scale application of vacuum insulation technology in green buildings and energy-saving renovations.
Prof. Yang Lixia and Dr. Qiu Yueyue chaired the seminar on the “Specification for Fiber Core Materials for VIP”, aiming to standardize the technical requirements and test methods for fiber core materials used in VIP. This standard will clarify key indicators such as density, fiber diameter, porosity, thermal stability, and getter compatibility of fiber core materials, further improving the product quality consistency of VIPs. It will promote their standardized application in interior decoration, cold storage engineering, cold chain logistics, and external wall insulation, supporting the high-quality development of the super insulation materials industry. Numerous industry experts and scholars actively participated in discussions, exchanging views on the formulation direction and key technical indicators of various standards. They combined their rich practical experience with cutting-edge research results to provide suggestions for the accuracy, scientificity, and practicality of the standards.
